ADAMS, Elijah

East Lancashire. 21 March 1918

Elijah Adams was born in Blackheath and attended Halesowen Grammar School. He enlisted after 1916 and was sent to the East Lancashire Regiment. He served in the 2/5 Territorial Battalion which crossed to France in 1917 and in March 1918 were in the front line near St. Quentin facing the first German Spring offensive. The enemy's opening barrage and rapid advance were overwhelming and British losses were high. Private Elijah Adams was killed in action on the 21st March 1918 on this day and his name is commemorated on the Pozičres, Blackheath, Halesowen and Earls school Memorials.
