BURGER, Daniel Johannes

Royal Flying Corps. 27 September 1916

Daniel Burger was a native of South Africa, born at Pretoria. By 1916 he was married to Ruth and living with his wife and daughter at 53 Brettell Lane, Amblecote, in the home of his brother-in-law, W. Taylor. He had served in the South African Railway Engineers until their disbandment in 1913 and the South African Engineers until November 1915 when he was discharged. His wife died on the 22nd August 1916 and within a short time he enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps as Air Mechanic 2nd Class. After only two weeks he was taken to Connaught Hospital, Farnborough, where he died of anaemia on the 27th September. Air Mechanic Daniel Burger was 28 years of age and is buried with his wife, Ruth, in Amblecote churchyard.
