COX, John Thomas

John Cox came from Blackheath and enlisted in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He served in the 3rd Battalion in the 27th Division. They returned from India late in 1914 and went to the Ypres sector. In April they were engaged in the Second Battle of Ypres in the area where gas was released by the enemy for the first time. On the 9th May Private John Cox was killed in action and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
