DAVIES, Charles Alfred Friday

Charles Davies was one of seven children of George and Margaret Davies of 36 Brettell Lane and married Mary Aston in 1917. He had been a chorister at Amblecote church and was employed as a glass-cutter before enlistment. He joined the Lincolnshire Regiment and was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. Probably during the Advance to Victory in 1918 he was deeply affected by gas poisoning and sent to the 30th Military Hospital at Alnwick, Northumberland, where he died of septic pneumonia and influenza on the 6th November. He was 30 years of age and was buried on the 12th November, one day after the armistice, in Amblecote churchyard. He is commemorated on the Amblecote and Amblecote church Memorials.
