FOXALL, Sidney

Worcestershire. 18 March 1915

Sidney Foxall lived at 9 Pargeter Street, Wollescote, and attended Wollescote school. He was a pre-war regular soldier in the Worcesters and served in the 1st Battalion. He was probably recalled from the Reserve to join his battalion when it returned from India. They landed in France on the 5th November and went into the front line in Artois near Armentičres. For the first of the British army's Spring attacks of 1915 the Worcesters were in the front line at Neuve Chapelle..The battle lasted from the 12th to the 15th March and no ground was gained. The losses were high and included Private Sidney Foxall who was severely wounded. He was taken to a military hospital near Boulogne where he died of wounds on the 18th March. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery (III D 37) and commemorated on the Lye and Wollescote, Lye church and Wollescote school Memorials.
