Hubert Green was the son of Charles and Fanny Green of 31 Chapel Street, Wordsley. He was an early volunteer in August 1914 for the Worcesters and was posted to the 9th (Service) Battalion. After training it was sent to Gallipoli to reinforce the troops on the peninsula. This second landing took place on the 6th August 1915 but, although the landing was successful, the first main attack on the Turkish defences on the 10th August was a disaster. Private Hubert Green was among many of the Worcesters killed in action. He was 20 years of age and is commemorated on the Helles and Wordsley Memorials.
