HARBOURNE, George

Royal Engineers. 30 April 1915

George Harbourne was the son of George and Ethel Harbourne of 11 Cottage Street, Brierley Hill. He volunteered at Stourbridge for the Royal Engineers as a Driver and went to Reading for military training with the 39th Divisional Signal Company. His service lasted hardly a week. A horse he was riding bolted and fell, throwing him with great violence against the trunk of a tree. He was removed to Reading Hospital with a fractured skull and never regained consciousness. He was only 17 years of age and is buried in Brierley Hill churchyard and commemorated on the Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
