HOLLAND, Percy

Percy Holland was the son of David and Anne Holland of Halesowen. He volunteered for the Shropshires and was sent to the 5th (Service) Battalion. In 1915 they crossed to France and were quickly engaged in the Second Battle of Ypres. The salient was saved and the battalion was still there in February 1916. However, the front line was never quiet and the dangers of sniping and shelling were ever present. Possibly as a result Private Percy Holland was killed in action on the 13th February 1916. He was 24 years of age and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
