JONES, George

George Jones was born at Woodhouse Mills in Yorkshire, but in 1917 he was living at 28 Palace Row, Oldswinford. He was single and lived with his widowed mother. He worked as a shovel finisher at Pearson and Brooks of Lye. He was conscripted in 1917, but within 24 hours of leaving home for army training he died at Worcester Military Hospital of a gastric ulcer on the 19th April. His funeral took place at St Mary's and he is buried in Oldswinford church cemetery (Plot F). He is commemorated on the Stourbridge and Oldswinford church Memorials.
