JORDON, (Jordan) William

Gloucestershire. 27 May 1916

William Jordan was the foster son of Mrs Knowles of 62 Spring Street, Lye, and worked as a mill feeder at Messrs Timmis of Lye. He enlisted at Worcester and was sent to the 14th Battalion of the Gloucesters. In January 1916 they crossed the Channel and went to the Artois sector for front line training. Any front line was dangerous and, although there was no organised military action in progress at the time, Private William Jordan was killed in action on the 27th May 1916.The likely cause of death was shell-fire. He was 30 years of age and is buried in St Vaast Military Cemetery (III J 1) at Richebourg. He is commemorated on the Lye and Wollescote Memorial.
