KENNYMORE, William

Worcestershire. 21 August 1916

William Kennymore was married to Susanna, later Allen, of 96, Corporation Rd., Dudley.He volunteered for the Worcester Territorials and served in the 2/7th Battalion which crossed to France early in 1916. The battalion took up a position in the Artois sector close to Neuve Chapelle which had been the scene of serious losses for other Worcester battalions a year earlier. It was relatively quiet except for raids and sporadic shelling. As the Somme battle to the south progressed the Worcesters were ordered to make more vigorous attacks and in one of these Private William Kennymore was killed in action on the 21st August .He is commemorated on the Loos and Dudley Memorials.
