LANDER, James

3rd (King’s Own) Hussars. 23 March 1918

James Lander was born in Willenhall, Staffs, and enlisted in Dublin with the 3rd King’s Hussars. He is thought to have been living in Amblecote and was a member of the Amblecote Institute. They went to Belgium in August 1914 and fought with the 2nd Cavalry Division for the rest of the war, fighting on the Aisne in 1914, the second Battle of Ypres in 1915 and Arras in 1917. In March 1918 they were waiting for the first German Spring offensive and suffered heavily from the 21st to the 23rd March. Among those killed in action was Private James Lander who is commemorated on the Pozières, and Amblecote Institute Memorials.
