LARGE, Alfred

Worcestershire. 14 September 1919

Alfred Large was the son of Mrs Mary Ann Stokes of 20 Cottage Street, Brierley Hill. He was a pre-war soldier in the Worcestershire Regiment in the 2nd Battalion and his name appears on the Worcester Cathedral list of men in the Worcesters who departed for the Mons campaign in August 1914. A letter, written from the front line, was published in January 1916 by the County Express and he survived the war. This was a remarkable record of service in that he might have fought all the way from Gheluvelt in 1914 to the Advance to Victory in 1918. He died on the 14th September 1919 at home. Private Alfred Large was 32 years of age and is buried in Brierley Hill church cemetery (west) and commemorated on the Brierley Hill Memorial.
