MORGAN, William

South Staffordshire. 06 August 1916

William Morgan was born in Pensnett and attended Brockmoor Schools. He enlisted in September 1914 at Brierley Hill for the South Staffords and was sent to the 2nd Battalion on the Western Front. In September 1915 they fought at Loos and suffered severely. In 1916 they came to the Battle of the Somme for the attacks on Delville Wood in August and on the 6th a powerful attack was launched on the fortified Waterlot Farm some 500 yards from the Wood. The German defence was tough and after a hard fight the Staffords could not break through.
