NIXON, John Edward

Royal Artillery.

John Nixon came from Brettell Lane, Wordsley, and was a carter employed by T. Hancock and Co. of Brettell Lane. He enlisted in the artillery and joined the Royal Field Artillery. He served on the Western Front and in Italy but was gassed early in 1918. He had been in several hospitals, including Malvern and Birmingham and he died in the Corbett Hospital, Amblecote, in June 1918. Gunner John Nixon was 29 years of age and his funeral of took place at Holy Trinity church, Wordsley. He is commemorated on the Wordsley Memorial.
