George Page was the son of John Page of 40 Audnam, Wordsley. He enlisted in the Welsh Regiment and was sent to the 10th (Service) Battalion in the 38th (Welsh) Division. They went to the Western Front in 1916 but suffered great losses in the initial attack on the Somme at Mametz. George Page probably joined them after the Somme and they were not in action again until the battle of Pilkem Ridge at the start of the Third Battle of Ypres on the 31st July 1917. Losses were again very heavy and among those killed was Private George Page who is buried in New Irish Farm Cemetery (XXV D 10), Ypres. He was 29 years of age and is commemorated on the Wordsley Memorial.
