PEARSHOUSE, William

West Yorkshire. 09 August 1915

William Pearshouse was born in Cradley and attended Cradley C of E School. He volunteered for the South Staffordshire Regiment but was transferred to the West Yorkshire Regiment and went with their 9th (Service) Battalion to reinforce the British force on Gallipoli. They landed on the 6th August and were engaged in a contest for the ridge of the peninsula. They failed to break through the Turkish line on Sari Bair and one of the many killed in action on the 9th August was Private William Pearshouse. He is commemorated on the Helles, Cradley, Halesowen and Cradley C of E School Memorials.
