ROLLASON, Joseph

Joseph Rollason was the son of George and Hannah Rollason of 358 Long Lane, Blackheath. He volunteered for the Berkshires and went to the 8th (Service) Battalion. They were sent to France in August 1915 and reached the front line by the 8th and were soon called into action for the Battle of Loos which started on the 25th September. The attacks on the enemy line failed with heavy casualties and among those killed in action on the 25th September was Private Joseph Rollason. He was 24 years of age and is commemorated on the Loos, Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
