Thomas Rutter enlisted in the artillery and was sent to the Royal Horse Artillery as a driver. From either wounds or sickness he returned home and died in Lye on the 15th May 1915. Driver Thomas Rutter is buried in Lye and Wollescote Cemetery (C I 27) and commemorated on the Lye and Wollescote and Lye church Memorials.
