STONE, Charles H

Dorset. 15 December 1915

Charles. Stone was born in Dudley and was living in Halesowen in 1914 He volunteered and was sent to the 6th (Service) Battalion of the Dorsets. They went to France in July 1915 and were given front line training in the Ypres sector south of the city. This was always a vulnerable area and a target for German artillery and a shell explosion might well explain the death of Corporal Charles Stone on the 15th December 1915. He is buried in Birr Crossroads Cemetery (II E 18) and commemorated on the Halesowen Memorial.
