WESTBURY, Norman

Royal Berkshire. 20 September 1918

Norman Westbury came from Halesowen and served in the Berkshires. He was sent to the 8th Battalion which went to France in 1915 and fought on the Somme in 1916 and at Third Ypres in 1917. They suffered in the German Spring offensives but were present in much of the fighting in the Advance to Victory. They fought their way back across the old Somme battlefield in August and on the 20th September were involved in the four day fighting advance to the Hindenburg Line. Private Norman Westbury was killed in action on the 20th September and is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois and Halesowen Memorials.
