WESTWOOD, George

Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry). 26 October 1918

George Westwood came from Blackheath and served in the Worcester Yeomanry, probably as a volunteer blacksmith, before 1914. By 1918 he had been transferred to the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) and was serving in the 25th Squadron as a Shoeing Smith in Mesopotamia. In the last stage of the conflict he seems to have contracted disease and he died on the 26th October 1918. He is commemorated on the Basra, Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
