BAKER, Joseph

Royal Artillery. 01 June 1917

Joseph Baker was the son of Major Baker and lived at 45 Hackett Street, Blackheath. He enlisted in the Gunners and was posted to the 156th Siege Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery. Gunner Joseph Baker died of wounds on the 1 June 1917 during the long struggle to keep control of Arras. He was 20 years of age and is buried at Sunken Road Cemetery, Boisleux-St. Marc, south of Arras (I E 10). He is commemorated on the Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
