Frederick Ball volunteered for the Worcesters and joined the 9th (Service) Battalion. After training in England they were sent out to reinforce the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force which had landed on the Gallipoli peninsula in April 1915. Stalemate had been reached and new landings at Suvla Bay took place on the 6th August. The Worcesters landed successfully but their several attempts to reach the ridge of the peninsula were unsuccessful. Trench warfare developed among the gullies and ravines and in late autumn rain and frost took even more toll of the troops. It was decided to evacuate the force and this was achieved without the loss of a single man from Suvla. Some of the troops still held Helles and they were evacuated on the 7th January 1916. This time there were some losses and among them was Private Frederick Ball. He is commemorated on the Helles, Brierley Hill. Brierley Hill church Memorials and the Delph District Roll of Honour..
