BAXTER, Charles

Worcestershire. 13 May 1916

Charles Baxter was the adopted son of John and Maria Sutton of Meeting Lane, Brettell Lane, and he worked at Messrs. Bowen Ltd. His parents were William and Dorcas Baxter of Brook Street. He enlisted in June 1915 and went to the 2nd Battalion of the Worcesters. After the struggles of 1915 the Worcesters were still in Artois but in a relatively quiet part of the front. There was, however, always the danger from artillery and he was killed in action on the 13th May. Private Charles Baxter was 19 years of age and is buried in Cambrin churchyard extension and commemorated on the Amblecote Memorial.
