BILLINGHAM, Joseph

South Staffordshire. 31 July 1915

Joseph Billingham enlisted in the South Staffords before the war and served in the Territorials. He went with the 1/5th Battalion who went to France in March 1915. And spent the next few months gaining occasional experience in the front line trenches near Armentičres. They did not lose many casualties but shelling was sporadic and it was probably in the course of enemy fire that Private Joseph Billingham was killed on the 31st July 1915. He is buried in Railway Dugouts Memorial Cemetery (I C 2) and his name is commemorated on the Cradley and Halesowen Memorials.
