BILLS, Caleb

Worcestershire. 18 December 1915

Caleb Bills was born in Cradley and attended Cradley C of E School. He volunteered for the Worcesters and was sent to the 4th Battalion. They went out to Gallipoli and landed on the 25th April. They spent over six trying months attempting to drive the Turks off the peninsula and suffered heavily. Conditions in this campaign were severe with many casualties from disease and extremes of weather as weel as from gun-fire. Private Caleb Bills became seriously ill with pneumonia and was transported to the base hospital at Alexandria in Egypt where he died on the 18th December 1915. He is buried in Chatby Military Cemetery (B 6) and commemorated on the Cradley, Halesowen and Cradley C of E School Memorials.
