Edwin Bloomer was born at Derby but attended Cradley C of E School. He enlisted in the Worcesters and was posted to the 1st Battalion which during the first week of the 1916 Battle of the Somme fought at Contalmaison where one of the few advances was made at the start of the battle. After a period of recuperation the battalion moved to the front line again on the 19th October. There was no battle but shelling was fierce. Private Edwin Bloomer was killed on the 22nd October, probably in this manner. He was 18 years of age and is buried in Bancourt Cemetery (VIII C 9) and commemorated on the Cradley, Halesowen and Cradley C of E School Memorials.
