BOWATER, William

Royal Navy HMS Neptune. 10 August 1918

William Bowater was the son of William and Sophia Bowater of 2 Waterloo Place, Dudley. He served as Leading Stoker. in the Royal Navy aboard HMS Neptune, a 1909 Dreadnought battleship. She was in the 1st Battle Squadron in 1914 and fought at Jutland on the 31st May 1916. She played a small part in the action and suffered no casualties. William Bowater became sick and returned home. He died on the 10th August 1918 at the age of 28 and is buried in Dudley Borough cemetery (F 709) and commemorated on the Dudley Memorial.
