BRITTAIN, Frederick

Worcestershire. 18 August 1915

Frederick Brittain was the son of Mrs Alice Brittain of 16 Stourbridge Road, Halesowen. He was an early volunteer in August 1914 for the Worcesters and joined the 9th (Service) Battalion. They sailed for Gallipoli in July 1915 as reinforcements for the original expeditionary force. They took part in the landing of the 6th August but were unable to gain control of the peninsula. Many died in the attempt and Private Frederick Brittain was killed in action on the 18th August. He was 20 years of age and is commemorated on the Helles and the Halesowen Memorials.
