BROWN, George

Worcestershire. 17 April 1918

George Brown enlisted in the Worcesters and joined the 2nd Battalion on the Western Front. He probably fought on the Somme in 1916 and at Third Ypres in 1917. In March 1918 the British forces were anticipating the German Spring offensives and the second of these was launched on the Lys on the 9th April in the sector held by the Worcesters. There was furious fighting around Neuve Eglise before the British forces fell back. Private George Brown was killed in action on the 17th April and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert and Halesowen Memorials.
