CHAPLIN, Arthur Bennett

King's (Liverpool). 08 June 1916

Arthur Chaplin lived in Stourbridge (probably Lye) and volunteered for the South Staffordshire Regiment. He joined the Mediterranean Force, possibly with the 7th Battalion in August 1915, but was then transferred to the 2nd Garrison Battalion of the King's (Liverpool) Regiment who were stationed near Mudros during the Balkan conflict. It is thought that he was either injured or sick after the evacuation from Gallipoli and therefore unable to fight in the front line. However, he served in the Balkan campaign where he died on the 8th June 1916 and is commemorated on the Doiran and Lye and Wollescote Memorials.
