He married Florence and they had one daughter, Hilda, and were living by 1914 in Watery Lane, Wordsley. He enlisted in the Worcesters before 1914 and was in the 2nd Battalion stationed at Aldershot as part of the British Expeditionary Force when war broke out. By the 12th August they had landed in France and then travelled to Mons. After facing overwhelming enemy forces they were forced to retreat from Mons to the Marne. After the September Battle of the Aisne the line stabilised. However, another strong German army attacked in Belgium with Ypres as the target. The BEF moved hurriedly to its defence and arrived on the 15th October. On the 21st they advanced to attack the German forces at Langemarck. It was a hard fought day but the Germans were only briefly halted. Among those killed in action on this day was Private George Dillworth. He was 26 years of age and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Amblecote, Brockmoor and Wordsley Memorials.
