GREAVES, William H

Royal Artillery. 25 May 1915

Wiliam H. Greaves lived at 10 Dudley Road, Halesowen and joined the 44th Battery Royal Field Artillery. They were sent to the Western Front and posted to the front near Bethune. They went to the front line for the Battle of Festubert on the 16th May but little progress was made. Gunner William Greaves probably wounded in German counter-battery shelling and taken to a field ambulance near Richebourg where he died on the 25th May. He is buried in St Vaast Post Military Cemetery, Richebourg l'Avoue (I C 9) and is commemorated on the Halesowen Memorial.
