HADLEY, George

Worcestershire. 06 August 1915

George Hadley attended Halesowen C of E school and was probably a pre-war regular soldier serving in the 4th Battalion of the Worcesters. They returned from India to help form the 29th Division and were sent to Gallipoli. Their landing on the 25th April 1915 was successful but two major battles with the Turks at the village of Krithia failed to gain more territory. A third attack on the 6th August to divert the enemy from the landings at Suvla Bay was also a failure. Losses were heavy and included Private George Hadley. He is commemorated on the Helles, Halesowen and Halesowen C of E school Memorials.
