HADLEY, Joseph

Royal Warwickshire. 06 December 1917

Joseph Hadley lived in Halesowen and joined the Warwickshire Territorials. He was posted to the 2/6th Battalion which in August 1917 was engaged in the Third Battle of Ypres. It was then moved to the front line east of Arras facing the Hindenburg Line in preparation for the November battle of Cambrai. After the early success a strong German counter-attack on the 30th November was able to retake much of their lost ground. The Warwicks were successful in halting any further loss but their own counter-attacks were of limited success. Private Joseph Hadley was killed in action in the final stage of the battle. He is commemorated on the Cambrai and Halesowen Memorials.
