Frederick Hart was the son of Eliza Hart of 144 Spring Hill, Halesowen, and attended Halesowen C of E school. He was probably a regular soldier who had completed his years of service and was in the Reserve. He would have been called up immediately in 1914 and sent to his former unit, the 4th Battalion. He was with the battalion when it was sent in the expeditionary force to Gallipoli in April 1915. The landings were successful but the Turks could not be driven from the high ground. Two battles in front of the village of Krithia were unsuccessful and the third on the 4th June also failed. It was also costly as most of the pre-war veterans had become casualties. Among them was Sergeant Frederick Hart who was killed in action. He was 39 years of age and is commemorated on the Helles, Halesowen and Halesowen C of E school Memorials.
Commemorated at:
High Street, Halesowen, West Midlands B63 3BB ?
