Frederick Hart was the son of William and Rosanna Hart of Lye. He enlisted in the Worcesters and was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Hampshires. In 1917 they fought in the Spring Battles of Arras and in the long Autumn battles of Third Ypres. In the Spring of 1918 they faced the German Spring offensives and suffered severely. From August they took part in the astonishing Advance to Victory and triumphed in the taking of the Canal du Nord at the end of September. German resistance was never broken and in one of the subsequent actions Private Frederick Hart was seriously wounded and sent to the base hospital at Abbeville. He died there on the 4th November and is buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension (V A 38) and commemorated on the Lye and Wollescote and Lye church Memorials.
