Daniel Heath lived in Butchers Lane, Cradley, with his wife Lily and their three children. In October 1914 he volunteered for the Worcesters and joined the 9th (Service) Battalion. After training for nearly a year they were sent out to Gallipoli to break the stalemate on the peninsula. They landed successfully on the 6th August and attempted to seize the crest of the ridge of Sari Bair. They were close by the 10th but were driven off by the defenders. He was killed in a fierce struggle for control of a well, possibly Kugu Wells where Lt John Pearson of Thorn Hill, Stourbridge, was also killed in action. Private Daniel Heath was 31 years of age and is commemorated on the Helles, Cradley and Halesowen Memorials.
