Joseph Jones lived in Price Street, Kates Hill, Dudley and volunteered for the Worcester Territorials. He joined the 2/7th (Territorial) Battalion and probably went to the Western Front in late 1916. He was later transferred to the 10th Battalion and fought in 1917 at Messines and the Third Battle of Ypres. In early 1918 the Worcesters were in the support line near Bapaume expecting to meet the March German Spring offensive. A huge bombardment opened up early on the morning of the 21st March and the Worcesters were ordered forward. They had little chance and were son driven back towards Bapaume. Losses were high and among them was Lance Corporal Joseph Jones. He is commemorated on the Arras, Dudley and St. John's, Kates Hill, Memorials.
