Percy Lea was the son of Harry Lea of 29 Blackberry Lane, Halesowen, and attended Hasbury school. He enlisted in the Royal Sussex Regiment and went to the 12th Battalion. They had seen action in 1915 at Loos and on the Somme at Ovillers and Pozičres. In 1917 they were involved in several stages of the Third Battle of Ypres from Pilkem ridge in August to Passchendaele in November. During the second battle of Passchendaele Private Percy Lea was killed in action. He was 19 years of age and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot, Halesowen and Hasbury school Memorials.
