Henry Malpass lived at Parkes Yard, Coventry Street, Stourbridge, and worked for Messrs Roberts and Cooper. He was one of the last Stourbridge men to go to the Western Front and died only three weeks from the Armistice. He enlisted in May 1918 and was sent to the Somerset Light Infantry. He joined the 12th Battalion in the 74th (Yeomanry) Division on the 10th September as they continued the Advance to Victory. They moved over the Belgian border and neared Tournai. Just short of the town, Private Henry Malpass was killed by shellfire on the 22nd October. He was aged 20 and is buried in Orcq Communal Cemetery (B 7) near the poet Wilfred Owen. He is commemorated on the Stourbridge and St. John's church Memorials.
