Leslie Moore was the son of George and Annie Moore of 4 The Quarry, Hasbury, and attended Hasbury school. He enlisted in the Welsh Fusiliers and joined the 14th Battalion. They landed in France in December 1915 and fought in the early stage of the 1916 Battle of the Somme. On the 6th July they attacked Bazentin Wood only to suffer defeat. Under a new Divisional commander they attacked again on the 10th July and in three days the wood was captured. Their losses on the 10th were heavy and Private Leslie Moore was killed in action. He was 20 years of age and is commemorated on the Thiepval, Halesowen and Hasbury school Memorials.
