PARKES, Isaac Walter

Machine Gun Corps. 01 August 1917

Isaac Parkes was the son of Thomas and Hannah Parkes of 17 Holt Road, Cakemore, Blackheath. He enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment but was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps which was considerably expanded after 1916. It is likely that he was in the front line for the opening day of the Third Battle of Ypres but was killed in action the next day, 1st August. He was 23 years of age and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
