Walter Pearson was born in Brierley Hill and lived at The Delph. He was a volunteer for the South Staffords Territorials and joined the 1/5th Battalion which went to the Western Front in March 1915. They gained trench experience in the Messines sector and then at Hill 60 near Ypres. This was one of the most dangerous sectors of the front at this time and shelling, raids and sniping were conducted by both sides. Walter Pearson was seriously injured at some point and sent back to the Base Hospital at St. Omer, where he died on the 30th August 1915. Private Walter Pearson is buried in Longuenesse (Souvenir) Cemetery (II A 22) and commemorated on the Brierley Hill, Brierley Hill church Memorials and Delph District Roll of Honour.
