PERKINS, George L

Machine Gun Corps. 15 December 1917

George Perkins was the son of George and Sarah Perkins of 6 Valley Road, Lye. He volunteered for the Worcesters and was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps in 1916. He would probably have fought on the Somme in 1916 and at Passchendaele in 1917. In the course of this long period of struggle it is likely that he was seriously wounded and returned home to convalesce. However, he died of wounds on the 15th December and is buried in Lye Cemetery (D L 9). He was 20 years of age and is commemorated on the Lye and Wollescote and Lye church Memorials.
