PHILLIPS, Christopher

Prince of Wales (West Riding). 03 September 1916

Christopher Phillips was born in Birmingham and enlisted in Brierley Hill for the West Riding Regiment. He served in the 1/4th Territorial Battalion which went to the Western Front in April 1915 as part of the 49th (West Riding) Division. It was in action at the Battle of Aubers Ridge in May and was next in serious action in the 1916 Battle of the Somme. It fought in the opening battle of Albert and in the long struggle for the Pozières Ridge. Private Christopher Phillips was killed in action on the 3rd September and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial and on the Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
