Thomas Probert was the son of George and Hannah Probert and was born in Blackheath. He enlisted at the age of 17 at Seaforth, Lancs, and joined the King's (Liverpool) Regiment and wassent to the 1/5th (Territorials). They were in the 55th Division in 1916 and Thomas Probert probably reached them after the Battle of the Somme. They moved to the Ypres sector in 1917 and before the opening of the Third Battle of Ypres there were no great attacks. However, shells were always a danger to those in the front line and Private Thomas Probert was killed in acrion on the 24th July. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Dudley and St. John's, Kates Hill, Memorials.
