ROSE, Geoffrey

King's (Liverpool).

Geoffrey Rose was the son of Arthur and Emily Rose of Brooklands, Island Road, Garston, Liverpool. He was born In Dudley and attended Dudley Grammar School when he lived at Fernleigh, Russell Street, Dudley. He volunteered for the King's Regiment and served in the 18th (Service) Battalion in the 30th Division. After training they went to the Western Front in November 1915 and in June to the Somme. They were engaged on the first day and captured the village of Montaubon. The casualties, however, included Corporal Geoffrey Rose who was killed on the 1st July. He was 23 years of age and is commemorated on the Thiepval, Dudley and Dudley Grammar School Memorials.
