ROUND, B

Army Service Corps. 09 August 1917

B. Round was the son of Benjamin and Anna Maria of Dudley. He was sent to S Siege Park and was attached to XVIII Corps Heavy artillery. In 1917 the Corps was in Flanders and included the Worcester Territorials of the 46th (South Midland) Division. The artillery came to the front line for the opening phase of the Third Battle of Ypres on the 31st July and in the northern sector delivered an enormous barrage to open the Battle of Langemarck. It was successful but Private Round was probably injured in this phase. He was taken to a Casualty Clearing Station and died on the 9th August. He was 40 years of age and is buried in Mendighem Military Cemetery (IV B 24) and commemorated on Brierley Hill Memorial.
